The Ultimate Guide Overview

Why Da Nang works for remote professionals, and what this guide saves you.

Welcome to one of Southeast Asia's fastest-growing digital nomad hubs. Da Nang offers a blend of beachfront living, modern infrastructure and affordability that remote workers dream about. This coastal city has become a thriving base for online freelancers, entrepreneurs and digital professionals from around the world.

Da Nang is not only a place to visit; it is a place to live. Most digital nomads who discover the city end up staying three months or longer, and many extend indefinitely thanks to the quality of life, strong community bonds and opportunities for both work and adventure.

Most newcomers overpay and lose time simply because they do not know the local alternatives. This guide shows you how to live like a local immediately, skipping the expensive learning curve.

  • Mid season: June to SeptemberHot weather
  • Low season: October to JanuaryRainy days

Section 02

90-Day eVisa & Visa Runs

eVisa options, agent pricing, the Laos bus run and Tet timing warnings.

Most passports need an eVisa to enter Vietnam. The eVisa is usually valid for 90 days, single or multiple entry. Some passports are visa-free, but usually for only 45 days, so people planning longer stays apply for a 90-day eVisa as well.

Approximate agent pricing for an eVisa

  • 1 hour: $100
  • 3 hours: $80
  • 8 hours (1 day): $70
  • 2 days: $65
  • 3 days: $60
  • 4 days: $50

A bus visa run is usually around $150 (3.9m VND) and takes 12–15 hours. You leave Da Nang around 6–7 am on a comfortable bus, cross into Laos to get a new 90-day eVisa, and return around 8–10 pm.

Plan B

Fly to Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok (usually the cheapest flights) and run the regular or express process there. Some agencies issue a visa within hours at a higher rate.

Tet holidays

February is usually Tet (Lunar New Year) in Vietnam and many services, including immigration, are closed. Complete your eVisa process before Tet. Many cafés and restaurants are also closed, overpriced or understaffed during that period.

Section 03

Transportation

Airport transfers, ride apps, long-distance cars and the tourist train to Hue.

Avoid

  • Random taxi drivers outside the airport and around the city, even if they wear Grab jackets and helmets
  • Grab for long distances: $15–50 per trip

Do this instead

  • Order Grab or local taxi apps such as Xanh SM, Maxim and InDrive
  • The airport has a Grab station a few metres outside the exit; around $5 to My An
  • Local taxi companies for long distance: $1–6 per trip depending on car and passengers
  • InDrive also works well for Da Nang to Hoi An, Ba Na Hills or Hue

Savings

Savings: $14–44 per trip. Time saved: 5–10 minutes per ride. You can pre-book 4–7 seater cars or 16-seater minivans.

Da Nang – Hoi An tourist car service (+84 70 599 9007 WhatsApp / 0705999007 Zalo)

  • 4-seater car: 250,000 VND
  • 7-seater car: 300,000 VND
  • 16-seater car: 400,000 VND

Da Nang – Ba Na Hills round trip

  • 4-seater car: 600,000 VND
  • 7-seater car: 700,000 VND
  • 16-seater car: 1,000,000 VND

Pick-up is available at Da Nang Airport, the train station or the city centre, plus shuttle service to attractions such as Ba Na Hills, Than Tai Mountain, Linh Ung Pagoda, Marble Mountains and Hue. Pricing changes, so always confirm with the company. Another company suggested by friends: +84 90 589 91 99.

Pro tip

Take the morning tourist train if you plan to visit Hue — fantastic sea views. Come back to Da Nang by taxi company or the local train.

Ride and taxi apps

Section 04

ATM Withdrawals & QR Payments

Fee-free ATMs, local bank accounts, QR payment apps and currency exchange.

Avoid

  • Standard ATMs: 220,000 VND (~$9) per withdrawal

Better

  • VP Bank ATMs: 0 VND fee (fees change over time, so verify locally)
  • Most international and tourist businesses accept Visa and Mastercard

Savings

Savings: $9–180/month, since some ATMs cap withdrawals at 2m VND (~$76). Time saved: 1–2 hours/month.

Many people open a Timo Bank account with a tourist visa, passport, Vietnamese phone number and address so they can pay local QR codes through the app. The account freezes each time the eVisa expires; a five-minute bank visit with the new eVisa unfreezes it. You can transfer money from a foreign bank account into the Vietnamese account (Revolut usually charges $1–2), but not the other way round, and no ATM card is issued on a tourist visa. Sacombank, Vietcombank and others work similarly.

Yodl Pay lets you pay local QR codes with stablecoins: scan the merchant QR, pay in crypto, and the merchant receives VND automatically.

Yodl Pay links

Important

If you pay with a foreign bank card, the venue may add 3–5% to the bill, depending on the café or restaurant.

Section 05

Motorbike Rental & Equipment

Renting a bike safely, plus storage, monitors, desks, printing and studios.

You can rent a motorbike from around $40–50/month for a simple model. A trusted store recommended by friends is Motorbike H&H Rental, 84 Đường Đỗ Bá, close to Little Hanoi Cafe.

Important

Riding legally requires insurance and the correct licence for Vietnam. Most visitors do not have the right documents and risk a fine during a police check. Grab motorbikes are affordable, fast and remove the paperwork problem.

Devices, desks & chairs

Section 06

SIM / eSIM

Local SIM pricing that beats international eSIMs by up to $70 a month.

Avoid

  • International eSIMs: up to $75/month

Better

  • Viettel SIM from $4/month (1.5GB/day)
  • Best long-term deal: 500GB/30 days for $5/month, paid yearly
  • Vinaphone SIMs also work well in Da Nang

Savings

Savings: up to $70/month (~2m VND).

Pro tip

Order a Grab with WiFi from the airport and buy your SIM at an official Viettel store in My An — airport stores charge more.

Section 07

Healthcare

Clinics, hospitals, dental care, chiropractic and health insurance options.

Section 08

Gyms & Sports

Recommended gyms plus the pickleball, beach and outdoor sports scene.

Gyms recommended by a personal fitness trainer

  • AlphaGreat space, no AC but good airflow
  • VinabeastAC, bodybuilder focused
  • Elite FitAC, overall good
  • 38 GymCheap, decent equipment
  • Black's GymDecent space and equipment
  • No LimitsSpacious, no AC

Da Nang is a sports city. Pickleball, badminton, beach volleyball, football and padel are all popular, and you will find beach groups for calisthenics, acro yoga, yoga, slackline, running, cycling and surfing.

Section 09

Accommodation & Where Nomads Stay

Realistic rent ranges, the An Thuong neighbourhood and where to base yourself.

Avoid

  • Overpriced hotels or Airbnb: $700–1,000/month

Better

  • Studio apartments: $150–350/month
  • 1BR apartments: $350–500/month
  • 2BR apartments: $500–1,500/month
  • 3–4BR apartments: $1,000–2,500/month

Savings

Savings: $300–600/month (~7.5–15 million VND).

Choosing where to stay depends on how long you plan to be here. For three months or more, renting an apartment offers the best value: your own kitchen, workspace and the freedom to make Da Nang home. One to two months is possible at higher rates.

The favourite neighbourhood among nomads is An Thuong in My An. This beachfront area balances work and play — steps from coworking spaces, surrounded by nomad-friendly cafés and a short walk from My Khe beach. Avoid accommodation directly on the bar street if you want peaceful nights.

Pro tip

An Thuong is roughly 0.02–0.04% of Da Nang's land area. The city is much bigger: the other side of the airport has lakes, green mountains and camping or glamping sites 30–40 minutes away by motorbike.

Section 10

Booking an Apartment (1–6 Months)

The step-by-step rental process, contract warnings and a proven post template.

It is possible to book an apartment even for a month: you just need your passport and tourist visa. Landlords ask for an extra month as deposit, refunded when you leave the apartment in the condition you found it. You sign a contract with all rental terms in English and Vietnamese and keep a copy.

Important

Make sure the contract states that the landlord is responsible for repairs caused by normal wear to the apartment or appliances — kitchen, fridge, washing machine, AC, TV and so on.

Suggested steps

  • Book a hotel for 2–3 nights in the area you want to live
  • Share your requirements 2–3 days before arriving in a Facebook groupVietnamese Facebook and Zalo groups usually have better deals
  • Schedule viewings during those 2–3 days
  • Walk around and ask local business owners and residents about available apartments
  • Important: owners usually give the apartment to whoever pays first

Example request post

  • 1 bedroom apartment (2-bedroom also okay), 50–75m2, modern furniture
  • Fully equipped kitchen with fridge, stove, rice cooker, dining table and 2–4 chairs
  • Sofa with table and TV, good WiFi for video calls
  • Private washing machine and a balcony or dryer, bathroom with shower, AC
  • Motorbike parking inside the building
  • Quiet area: no afternoon construction noise, no loud bars or karaoke at night
  • High floor with windows for sunlight
  • Budget, move-in date, contract length and number of tenants stated clearly
